DEVOA F/W 2019/20 Creative Look-Book

We are very proud to be able to share the new DEVOA F/W 2019/20 Creative Image Look-Book exclusively with you on TRANSGRESSIVE. These pictures are the third collaboration between Designer Daisuke Nishida and celebrated Japanese photographer LEN. In these abstract image shots the photographer used broken glass and various techniques to create a surreal mood of implied violence and destruction to represent the balance of Destruction and Creation around which the collections have always revolved. We hope to publish alternative shots showing more of the actual designs and shapes of the clothing closer to the date of the Devoa Paris exhibition later this month as well as an interview with･･･

CIVILIZED JAPAN S/S 2019 LOOK BOOK (Pt.1)

The Summer of 2018 has been one of the hottest on record with temperatures in Tokyo reaching higher and hotter than most other places in Asia. It was in this extreme climate that Satoshi Okugawa , the designer of Civilized, created his new collection. Designed to be worn despite heat and humidity and to protect the body and allow movement and action even when the idea of wearing clothes seems more like a penance rather than a pleasure the new collection is stripped down and minimalist to the max. However, it still features the trademark tech attention to detail and focus on new materials and technology that has gained Civilized･･･

One of the biggest problems about having a career which is partly built around discovering and promoting new and exciting creators is that sometimes there are no strong new people coming through. Recent times have shown a glut of copycat brands and places that support them who not only seem to thrive on their lack of originality but have also diluted and tainted a certain image to such an extent that it has now become stale and unfashionable to appear to be so. According to the designer Tomoaki Okaniwa the new A/W collection is part 2 of their two part “Correction” collection in which he has worked to correct and improve on any collections he has done in the past to the point where he feels this is the best collection so far. “THE GLASS BOX” : IMAGES INSPIRED BY AND FEATURING THE VIRIDI-ANNE S/S 2018 COLLECTION

Inspired by both one of the most striking and troubling images from David Lynch’s most recent season of Twin Peaks, as well as the haunting installation that The Viridi-Anne created in a Paris Art Gallery basement for their breathtaking 2008 A/W “Against Nature” collection, we feature a series of pictures of the glass case that stands in the middle of their Tokyo flag-store. Sometimes the case stands empty and expectant, sometimes a dark image flickers into existence. YASUYUKI ISHII 2018 SPRING/SUMMER COLLECTION : “ZEN PUNK”

This latest collection from underground Japanese Designer ISHII combines the elegance and simplicity of the aesthetics of Zen Buddhism with the energy and edge of punk spirit to create a perfect balance of functionality and style. The collection is aimed at all genders but styled in this series to compliment this particular model. Some of the fabrics and design has been inspired by zen monks and antique Japanese kimonos. Fabrics include kimono silk / very light cotton jersey and various leathers. DEVOA : INSIDE THE ATELIER [ A PORTRAIT IN FOUND OBJECTS ]

The Devoa Atelier and store is located in Hachimanyama : a small, suburban residential town located some 30 minutes by train away from the main Tokyo hubs of Shinjuku and Shibuya. Cozy and provincial as it may first appear, the town does offer an extremely beautiful park and some remarkable modern building design for those who take the time to discover it. In many ways it represents a more real and gritty Tokyo, far away from the globalist sameness of the more trendy areas. A real mixture and melting pot of Japanese life. The fact that designer Daisuke Nishida decided to base his brand here rather than in one of･･･
